Central Asia ’16 – I Can See

An older Kazak woman sat down. She wore a scarf on her head; her face moist with perspiration dripping off her chin. She said, through the translator, “I heard about you and have ridden a bus a very long way to get here.” I told her I was so glad she came and wiped her brow with napkins. She thanked me. We proceeded with the eye exam. I began trying the different lens. She was very quiet with each one, until I placed the correct lens over her eye, she was thrilled. She nodded yes, YES! I told her I would like for her to read my favorite Book, she held in her hands. She indicated she would and thanked us many times. She was all smiles. We hugged as she stood up to go get her glasses from the table. — Joan THP team member
